How to turn a photo into a bead pattern
- Choose one JPG, PNG or WebP image, up to 100 MB. A clear subject with a simple background is easiest to recognize on a small grid.
- Select your bead brand and color set. Adjust Width in beads and Maximum colors while checking the outline and important details.
- Open Edit pattern to correct individual beads, merge colors or move a selected region. Check the quantities in Materials before preparing your beads.
- Export a PNG or PDF with the guides you want. Use Start crafting to track placement, and download pattern data to keep an editable copy.
From a photo to brand color codes
This Perler bead pattern maker turns your own image into a grid of bead positions. Choose the brand and series you will use before converting: Perler Midi, Hama Midi, Artkal S or C, Nabbi or one of the MARD palettes. The resulting cells, on-screen materials list and exported chart use the same color codes. My colors lets you limit the result to colors already in your collection.
Choose a grid that fits the project
Start with 29 beads across for a small design, or try 58 or 87 for more room. The converter keeps the image proportions and offers widths from 10 to 116 beads. Boards adds guides using the square pegboard size set in Fine-tune. The PDF automatically chooses portrait or landscape and keeps the chart on one page when it fits clearly; larger charts are divided by board and by the space needed for readable codes. Check the peg spacing and shape of your physical boards when planning the finished size; the PDF is a numbered placement reference.
Keep the subject clear with fewer colors
Maximum colors starts at 20. Lower it for simpler sorting, or raise it to keep more shading. Dithering can help photographs retain gradual changes in tone, while a clean illustration often works well with dithering off. Brightness, contrast and saturation help separate the subject from its background. After conversion, use the pen, eraser, fill or replace tool to refine the areas that matter.
Take the pattern from screen to pegboard
Turn on Codes or Symbols to distinguish nearby shades. Export settings let you include a grid, board guides, a ruler and the color list. Materials counts every filled cell and estimates full 1,000-bead bags per color. Start crafting records placed beads, including per-color progress. Nothing is saved automatically; refreshing or reopening the page starts a new session. A downloaded pattern file carries the editable grid and progress to another device.

How do I make a Perler bead pattern from a photo?

Can I use Hama, Artkal or MARD beads instead?
Yes. Choose Hama Midi, Artkal S or C, Nabbi, MARD 185, MARD 221 or MARD 291 in the brand menu. MARD palettes also offer smaller color sets. Select the series or set you own so the pattern uses its color codes.
What pattern size fits a pegboard?
A 29 × 29 design fits a square board with 29 pegs in each direction. Use the Boards view to see sections matching the peg count set in Fine-tune for larger designs. Compare the grid with your own board before building, since board shapes and bead sizes vary.
How can I use only the bead colors I already own?
Open My colors and add color codes from the selected brand, save a selected color or add the colors in your pattern. Then choose All my colors or My colors in this brand under Use colors from. You can export and import this collection as a color file.
Why does my pattern use fewer colors than the maximum?
Maximum colors is an upper limit. An image may need fewer colors, especially with a small grid or a limited color set. The Materials list shows the colors actually present and their exact bead counts. Lowering the limit can make a busy photograph easier to build.
Can I fix individual beads or remove the background?
Use Remove background or Pick a color in Fine-tune image and colors, then adjust Tolerance. In Edit pattern, use the pen, eraser, fill and replace tools to change the grid. You can also select, copy, move, flip or rotate part of the pattern, with undo and redo available.
How do I print a pattern with readable color codes?
Open Export PNG / PDF and enable Codes, Grid, Ruler and Color list. Symbols help distinguish close shades. The PDF includes an overview, a numbered chart and a materials list. It automatically chooses portrait or landscape and keeps the chart on one page when it fits clearly; larger charts are divided using the configured boards, with further page breaks when needed for readable codes. The printout is scaled to the page, so use the row and column numbers as a placement guide rather than assuming a 1:1 match to your board.

Your image is processed on your device. Patterns, progress and custom colors are kept only while this page is open. Refreshing or reopening it starts with image selection. Download pattern data to keep an editable copy or move it to another device. Reopen the original image when you want to change the image conversion settings. Free tools do not upload your files.
