How to blur an image

How to blur faces in a photo
Draw a box around each face you want to hide. Include the hair and ears when they would help someone recognize the person, and add a separate box for every face in a group photo, including people in the background. The default strength turns a face into soft, unrecognizable color. The rest of the photo stays sharp.
Blur license plates, documents and screenshots
Before you post a car for sale, share a receipt or send a screenshot, cover the plate number, account numbers, addresses and names with boxes. Make each box a little larger than the text. For small print, keep the default strength or choose a higher one, or switch to Pixelate for the familiar censored look. Irregular shapes are easier with the brush in the pixelate image tool.
Blur a whole picture
Whole image blurs every part of the photo at once. A light strength makes a soft background for a quote, a slide or a video thumbnail; a strong one leaves only blurred colors, which works for a teaser or a spoiler preview.
Blurred areas stay blurred
Each area is rebuilt from averaged colors instead of being covered by a see-through layer, so the downloaded file does not contain the fine detail you blurred. Faces and text stay hidden at the default strength. At the lowest settings, outlines and large letters can remain recognizable, so check the result at full size before you share it.
Formats, size and metadata
The tool accepts one JPG, JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, or BMP image up to 50 MB. The download has the same pixel dimensions as your photo. JPG, PNG and WebP keep their format, and PNG and WebP keep transparent areas; GIF and BMP images are saved as PNG. The new file does not copy the original EXIF metadata, such as the camera model and GPS location, and a photo stored sideways by the camera is saved upright.

How do I blur a face in a photo?

Can I blur a license plate, address or other text?
Yes. Drag a box over the plate or text, making it slightly larger than the characters. Small print is easier to read through a light blur, so keep the default strength or raise it, and look at the downloaded image at full size before you share it.
Can someone unblur the image?
Each area you blur is rebuilt from averaged colors, so the fine detail inside it is not stored in the new file. At a low strength, outlines and large letters can still be recognizable. Use the default strength or higher for faces and personal information, and keep the original file to yourself.
How do I blur an entire picture?
Choose Whole image, then move the Strength slider. Low values give a soft background blur for text or a slide; high values turn the photo into blurred colors.
What is the difference between blur and pixelate?
Blur blends the area into soft, smooth color. Pixelate turns it into square blocks, like a mosaic. At the same strength they hide the same amount of detail, so choose the look you prefer.
Can I blur a picture on my phone?
Yes. Open this page in your phone's browser, choose a photo, and drag a finger across the picture to draw a box. You can move or resize a box by dragging it or its corners, then tap Download.
Which image formats can I blur?

No. Your browser opens, blurs and saves the photo on your device, and the photo is never uploaded. Refreshing or closing the page clears the photo and your boxes.
