Why a JPG can be larger than the AVIF

AVIF often stores a photo more efficiently than JPEG. Conversion is useful for compatibility; the JPG may need more space even at the same dimensions. Start at the default quality, inspect the result, and lower the quality for a smaller copy when needed. For a specific upload limit, the JPG compressor is the next step.

Transparency and animated AVIF files

JPG stores an opaque picture, so transparent pixels become opaque using their stored colors. Select PNG to keep transparency. Animated AVIF sources produce a still image from the first frame. ICO output fits the image within 256 × 256 pixels while keeping its proportions.

Is AVIF to JPG conversion lossless?

JPEG uses lossy compression. A high quality setting can retain more visible detail, but converting to JPG cannot recreate detail already lost in the source. Keep the original AVIF for future edits.

Why did the JPG get bigger?

AVIF can compress a photo more efficiently than JPG. The output size depends on the picture and quality setting. Try a lower JPG quality if file size matters more than fine detail.

Can I convert AVIF images in a batch?

Are JPG and JPEG different formats?
