Why use this free JPG/JPEG image compressor?

Free with no sign-up

Compress JPG/JPEG images and download the results without creating an account, installing desktop software, or paying for a download.

Batch compression for up to 100 images

Add as many as 100 JPG/JPEG files, let every image compress automatically, then download one result or all completed files in a ZIP archive.

Private browser processing

Image decoding, compression, previews, and ZIP creation all run in your current browser session — no selected file is uploaded to ImageNow.

How it works

  1. Select or drop up to 100 JPG/JPEG images into the compressor.
  2. Compression starts automatically. Pick another compression level or fit an upload limit for the whole batch, or click an image to compare it with the original at full size.
  3. Check the actual file size, then download any image on its own or the completed images as a ZIP.

How JPEG compression makes files smaller

JPEG reduces photo size by trading some fine detail for a smaller file. Start with the recommended result. For an upload limit, choose “Fit a size limit”, enter a value in KB or MB, and apply it. Review the actual size and click an image when you want to compare details with the original. The result keeps the JPEG format and original pixel dimensions. To compress JPG alongside other formats, use Compress image, which handles JPG, PNG and WebP images together in one batch.

Image quality and repeated compression

Lossy compression permanently discards some image data. Compressing the same photo again and again can gradually introduce blockiness, halos, or blur. Keep the original if you plan to edit the image later, and use a compressed copy for websites, email, uploads, or sharing.

JPG and JPEG are the same format

JPG and JPEG are two extensions for the same image format. ImageNow keeps the source extension and pixel dimensions, but re-encoding removes EXIF and other embedded metadata. This can save space and prevent camera details from being carried into the downloaded copy.

Why an optimized JPEG may not get any smaller

A photo that was already saved with efficient JPEG settings may have little room left for further reduction. If the new version is not smaller, ImageNow returns the original file and shows 0% savings rather than giving you a larger file.

Frequently asked questions

How do I compress a JPG image online?

Choose or drop your JPG and JPEG files, wait for automatic compression, and compare the original and compressed sizes. You can then download each image separately or download all completed files in a ZIP.

Are JPG and JPEG the same format?

Yes. JPG and JPEG are the same image format. The shorter .jpg extension came from older systems that limited extensions to three characters; modern software normally treats .jpg and .jpeg identically.

Does compressing a JPEG reduce its quality?

JPEG compression can change fine detail. If text, edges, or textures look too soft, choose “Less compression”. Click an image to compare the original and the result at full size before downloading.

Will compression change the image dimensions or format?

No. The pixel width, height, and JPEG format remain unchanged. Re-encoding can remove EXIF and other metadata, and the downloaded filename receives an -imagenow suffix.

Can I compress multiple JPG/JPEG images at once?

Yes. Add up to 100 JPG/JPEG files, let them compress automatically, and download results individually or together in a ZIP archive. Each file can be up to 100 MB.

Are my JPG/JPEG images uploaded to a server?

No. The selected JPG/JPEG files are decoded and compressed in your browser. Completed files and the optional ZIP archive are also created on your device. Free tools do not upload your files. AI features that require server processing upload them to our servers.

Can I compress JPG/JPEG images on Windows, Mac, iPhone, and Android?

The compressor works in modern browsers on Windows, macOS, Linux, iPhone, iPad, and Android. Very large or complex files use more memory and may work better on a desktop device.
