Resize an animated GIF in your browser
Make a GIF fit a page, message or emoji by changing its width and height. The result stays an animated GIF with the same frames, playback timing, repeats and transparent areas. To resize GIFs alongside JPG, PNG or WebP images, use Resize image.
Keep the animation
Preview the resized GIF in motion. Each result shows its frame count, actual dimensions and file size.
Pixels or percentage
Set a width and height, or choose a percentage such as 50% to halve both dimensions. Keep the aspect ratio for a natural shape.
A local batch, ready as ZIP
Process up to 20 GIFs at once, each up to 50 MB. Resizing and ZIP creation take place in your browser, and your files stay on your device.
How to resize a GIF
- Choose one or more GIFs, or drop them into the tool.
- Enter pixel dimensions or select a percentage. Keep aspect ratio preserves the shape; Do not enlarge smaller images keeps smaller GIFs at their original size.
- Check the expected dimensions, then click Resize GIF. The result is saved in GIF format.
- Check the animated preview, actual dimensions and file size. Download one GIF or save the completed batch as a ZIP.
Choose GIF width, height or percentage
Use Pixels for a specific display size and Percentage to scale the whole GIF. With Keep aspect ratio on, changing one dimension updates the other for a single GIF. In a batch, each image fits inside the maximum width and height using its own proportions. Turn the lock off to stretch the GIF to exact dimensions.
Reduce GIF file size to 256 KB or 1 MB
Smaller dimensions often mean a smaller file, but the result also depends on the colors and movement in the animation. Check the finished file size. For a specific limit such as 256 KB or 1 MB, continue with Compress GIF, choose Fit a size limit, and enter the maximum file size. A larger limit can keep more color detail.
Resize a GIF for Discord
Discord’s custom emoji requirements specify files under 256 KB, including animated GIFs. Resize the image with its aspect ratio kept, then check the output size. If it is still too large, use Compress GIF with a target below that limit before adding the emoji.
GIF quality and transparent backgrounds
GIF uses a palette of up to 256 colors. Resizing creates a new palette, so fine detail and gradients may change. Reducing dimensions usually looks better than a large enlargement. Transparent areas stay transparent, including areas that move from frame to frame. Preview the result at its intended display size to judge the picture.
Resize the whole GIF or crop a still frame
Resizing scales the full image while keeping its content. Cropping removes the outer parts. For a static picture of just part of a GIF’s first frame, use Crop image. Use this page when you want the whole animation at a new size.
GIF resizing questions
How do I resize a GIF without losing the animation?
Select the GIF, set its pixel dimensions or a percentage, and click Resize GIF. The result stays a GIF and keeps the frame count, playback timing, repeats and transparent areas. Check the animated preview before downloading.
How can I change GIF dimensions without stretching it?
Leave Keep aspect ratio checked. For one GIF, changing the width updates the height and vice versa. For a batch, each GIF fits proportionally within the maximum width and height. Turn the lock off when you want to stretch every image to exact dimensions.
Can I resize a GIF to 256 KB or 1 MB?
Smaller pixel dimensions often reduce file size. Check the actual result size, then use Compress GIF and Fit a size limit for a specific limit such as 256 KB or 1 MB. A larger limit can keep more color detail.
How do I resize a GIF for a Discord emoji?

Can I resize a GIF without losing quality?
GIF uses a palette of up to 256 colors. Resizing redraws the image and creates a new palette, so fine detail and gradients may change. Downsizing usually looks better than a large enlargement. Keep the aspect ratio and preview the result at its intended display size.
Will the transparent background stay transparent?
Yes. Transparent areas stay transparent in the resized GIF, including areas that move between frames. The result preview plays the resized animation so you can check it before saving.
