Get a PNG from a downloaded JFIF

A JFIF is a JPEG image, the same image format used by JPG. Windows file type settings can cause a browser to save it with a .jfif extension. When an editor or upload form asks for PNG, convert the picture to create an actual PNG file. For JPG, WebP, HEIC and other inputs together, use Convert to PNG.

Save the picture losslessly, including its background

The PNG keeps the decoded JFIF picture at its original pixel dimensions. Existing details and any JPEG compression marks stay in the result. PNG is useful when an editing workflow or a website specifically needs that format.

The background stays as it is. A white or colored background in the JFIF remains part of the PNG. For a transparent cutout, remove the background before saving the image as PNG.

Expect a larger file for most photos

JPEG stores photos compactly, so a lossless PNG is usually larger than the original JFIF. Compare the source and output sizes shown with the result. If you need a smaller PNG for an upload limit, continue with Compress image.

Process up to 100 images at once, with a maximum of 100 MB per image. Images and ZIP creation stay in your browser. Save each completed PNG individually or download the batch together.

JFIF to PNG questions

What is a JFIF file?

JFIF stands for JPEG File Interchange Format. It is a common way of storing JPEG pictures. Regular .jfif and .jpg files use the same image format; PNG uses a different format.

How do I turn a JFIF file into PNG?

Select or drop the JFIF here, wait for automatic conversion, and download the completed PNG. Changing the extension to .png alone leaves the file in its original JPEG format.

Why are my files saving as JFIF instead of JPG?

Windows file type settings may choose .jfif as the extension for JPEG images saved from a browser. Use this page when you need PNG. For JPG, a regular JFIF can simply be renamed with a .jpg extension.

Does JFIF to PNG conversion reduce quality?

PNG saves the decoded JFIF image losslessly at the original pixel dimensions. It preserves the existing picture, including any blur or compression marks already in the source.

Will the PNG have a transparent background?

The original background stays in the PNG. White, colored and photographic backgrounds remain part of the image. Remove the background first when you need a transparent cutout.

Why is the PNG larger than the JFIF?

JPEG compression stores photos compactly. Lossless PNG usually needs more space for the same picture. The result shows both file sizes so you can check the output before saving.

Can I convert JFIF files in a batch locally?

Yes. Process up to 100 images at a time, with a maximum of 100 MB each. Conversion and ZIP creation run in your browser, and image contents stay on your device. Download one PNG or all completed results as a ZIP.
